Alana Burns is a leader who differentiates brands and organizations to make positive impact on both business results and people’s lives.  She’s an award-winning innovator who empowers organizations to build relevance, generate revenue and grow, while delivering on their social mission. She is recognized for her expertise in Strategy, Marketing and Sustainability. 

Alana’s career includes many years of consulting, including almost 6 years leading Cause and CSR teams at Cone. In addition, she spent nearly a decade in strategy and marketing roles at Verizon. Her background also includes a stint as head of corporate communications and North American marketing for Bottomline Technologies (NASDAQ: EPAY, a $168M B2B IT firm). 

She has worked with many Fortune 100 companies delivering marketing strategy, strategic philanthropy, Cause Branding, and CSR platforms providing desired category leadership with positive social change.  That work demonstrates her ability to create innovative strategies plus, drive vision and implement for world-class organizations, including CVS/pharmacy, Deloitte, Disney, Gillette, Highmark, P&G, Pfizer, Starbucks, Walmart and Western Union

Her work has been recognized by her peers in many different arenas.  She holds an MBA from Marymount University and a BS in Management and Marketing from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  She continues to volunteer and support healthcare, environment/climate change and children’s issues.

At Stanford University’s 2005 Commencement, Steve Jobs said, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”   Alana continues to love her work and its positive impacts on business results and people’s lives.

Strategy Marketing Sustainability
Alana developed strategies to rebuild relevance among constituents and drive new corporate partnerships for the Nation's largest health non-profit. These strategies include developing a major branding initiative with online and social media strategies, increasing relevance among target audience and increasing revenue from corporate and consumer sources.  She combined insights with best practices creating corporate sponsorship decision making criteria for leadership team. Alana’s marketing expertise includes development, growth, and stewardship of Verizon’s $16B brand.  She co-led the team that developed the brand strategy for the newly merged $65B corporation.  As part of that effort, she inculcated brand strategy, driving revenue and social responsibility enterprise-wide to ensure message from 250,000 employees in 49 states, was aligned with brand experience of 35 million customers.  Alana led the creation Pfizer Investments in Health, a strategic social investment platform, to invest $1.6B in people, products, expertise and funding in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and strategic philanthropy initiatives globally.  She recognized patterns in existing assets and opportunities for new investments, then created a framework (Treat, Teach, Build and Serve) to determining whether to exit, evolve or enter new investments ensuring focus on business and social needs. This initiative achieved positive reputational benefits and permission to operate impacts while reducing overall spend, with a positive ROI.

Known for creative problem-solving, team-building and the ability to establish long-standing relationships with customers and key stakeholders, Becky brings more than 20 years of marketing, communications and business development experience.  Becky helps organizations transform under-utilized assets into ways to engage, capture and grow profitable customers and donors. Projects include providing branding and strategic marketing support for larger organizations such as Procter & Gamble, Highmark and The Washington Post as well as start-ups and smaller organizations such as Melanoma Research Alliance, Safe Horizon and 

Prior to marketing consulting, Becky was Executive Director, Consumer Marketing at Verizon and provided leadership on many breakthrough initiatives to support the $15B consumer revenue stream.  Projects to her credit include an integrated packaging strategy and a sales support program that increased revenue by over 15% and delivered an ROI of 388% in the first year.

Becky holds an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business and has a B.S. in engineering from the University of Virginia.
